Naina
Devi Temple
The attractive lake of Nainital is said to be
the eyes of Goddess Sati, wife of Lord Shiva.
Sati jumped into the sacrificial bonfire. Lord
Shiva, to mourn the death of his beloved wife,
carried the body across the country. The remains
of her body fell at various places which, today,
are sacred worship places for the Hindus. Here,
the temple is dedicated to Goddess Naina Devi.
Mukteshwar
Mukteshwar, 52 km from Nainital, has the famous
Shiva temple. Once this place was the cantonment
for the British troops. Today, it has been converted
into a Vetenary Research Institute. Mukeshwar
is full of natural beauty and from here the snow-clad
peaks of the Himalayas are clearly visible.
Hanuman
Garhi
Hanuman Garhi is a religious
centre, well known for it's sunset view. A very
beautiful Hanuman mandir, established by Baba
Neem Kiroli, is at the top. From Hanuman Garhi,
watching the sunset is very soothing. You can
walk down from Nainital to Hanuman Garhi.
